The following is a report on a meeting attended by TVCA Director Ms. Geri Raja regarding the latest news on the Madonna/Pinellas Bayway intersection.
PTAC Meeting 10-19-09
Tierra Verde Community Association Director and Secretary Geri Raja was recently appointed by the Pinellas County Metropolitan Planning Organization to the Pedestrian Transportation Advisory Committee as the South County Citizens Representative. Geri Raja also serves as the TVCA Chair of the Bridge Advisory Committee and withthe recent appointment to the MPO Pedestrian Transportation Advisory Committee is nowpositioned to bring a strong community voice to the Metropolitan Planning Organizationand the Florida Department of Transportation.
At the October PTAC Meeting, Geri Raja made an oral presentation on the number of
traffic conflict points and crashes at the Madonna Boulevard/Pinellas Bayway intersection
as reported by the Florida Department of Transportation and Pinellas County Sheriff’s
Office. The presentation also included suggestions for interim improvements to the intersection as well as recommendations made by the FDOT at the October TVCA Board
of Directors Meeting.
After discussion by PTAC members on possible safety measures that could increase public
safety at the Madonna Boulevard/Pinellas Bayway intersection, a motion was made and
unanimously passed that a Letter of Recommendation be sent to the MPO and the FDOT
for a study to review possible measures to increase public safety at this intersection. The
Pinellas County Planning Department expects to have the letter written and sent in the next few days. The TVCA will continue to keep the community informed as more information becomes available, and, also be sure to check the TVCA website under Political Action.
